A group of organizations involved in providing tax services has joined together to publish a report regarding the IRS that has been provided to Congress.
Group Encourages IRS Improvements
A diverse group of organizations has published and forwarded to the congressional tax writing committees a report entitled “Ensuring a Modern-Functioning IRS for the 21st Century”. The group includes the National Association of Enrolled Agents (NAEA), National Society of Accountants (NSA), National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP), and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
Among the groups recommendations:
- Efforts to change technology and business practices used by the IRS should be founded on the Report of the National Commission on Restructuring the Internal Revenue Service released in June of 1997.
- Congress should determine the level of service standards they want the IRS to provide and then provide the Service the resources to meet those levels of service.
- Enable the IRS to recruit and retain a high-quality workforce.
